The calculator multiplies your wall length by its height to find the wall area. It then applies the selected brick coverage rate and adds 5% for cuts and wastage.
These are planning estimates. Brick size, mortar-joint thickness, bond pattern and construction details can change the quantity required.
A wall measuring 10 metres long and 2 metres high has an area of 20 m².
For the calculator’s single-wall option, 20 × 55 gives 1,100 bricks. Adding 5% wastage brings the estimated order quantity to 1,155 bricks.
For the double-wall option, 20 × 110 gives 2,200 bricks. Including 5% wastage brings the estimate to 2,310 bricks.
These examples assume a rectangular wall without door or window openings.
This calculator allows 55 bricks per m² for a single wall and 110 bricks per m² for a double wall, before wastage.
The correct coverage for your project depends on the selected brick’s dimensions and the mortar joints. Use the manufacturer’s stated coverage where available, particularly when ordering maxi bricks, slim formats or other sizes that differ from the calculator’s assumptions.
Deduct door and window areas when preparing your final brick estimate. Calculate each opening’s width × height, then subtract the combined opening area from the overall wall area.
The calculator does not have a separate field for openings. Its result therefore includes the full rectangular area entered. Ask your builder to adjust the quantity for openings and any additional brickwork around reveals, piers or other details.
Yes. The estimated order quantity includes a 5% allowance for cuts and wastage.
Your project may need a different allowance depending on the design, handling conditions and amount of cutting. Confirm this with your builder, and avoid adding the same 5% allowance twice.
Not necessarily. A wall may use face bricks for the exposed outer layer and different building bricks for the inner layer.
The calculator’s double-wall result estimates the combined brick quantity using its stated coverage rate. It does not separate face bricks from backing bricks. Confirm the quantity of each product before requesting your quotation.
